COUPLES COUNSELLING THERAPY.
Relationships can be rewarding and hard. No two people are the same, and at some point differences in values, beliefs, priorities or life circumstances create conflict. Whether partners are seeking improvements in their relationship or considering time apart, couples and marriage counselling is designed to support each person in learning the necessary skills to communicate effectively, to navigate conflict and promote healthy relationships.

Let’s be honest, most of us didn’t learn the skills necessary for healthy relationships. Even if we did, add work stress, other family members, the fact we change as people, and possibly a pandemic, and our relationships can feel less than ideal.
Couples counselling typically begins by having both partners meet with myself, to discuss the reasons they are seeking therapy and collaborate on a plan. Sessions moving forward will be tailored to assist the couple in achieving the improvements they seek.
Couples may seek counselling to resolve reoccurring concerns, find ways to strength their relationship, or reconnect. Couples may also be looking for amicable solutions to challenging circumstances. Recognizing that each individual has unique needs and values within the relationship, I will provide practical strategies to help support conflict resolutions skills and promote fulfilling relationships.

Common reasons couples attend therapy? In general, to improve relationship, as well as navigate stress or conflict. More specifically, to address concerns like increasing arguments, lack of satisfaction, feeling disconnected, communication, challenging circumstances (i.e. pandemic, changes in health), life transitions (i.e. moving in together, new parents), infidelity, trust, boundaries, extended family, and supporting mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma (e.g. PTSD).
What if my partner is not interested in attending at this time? Not a problem, one person can still attend therapy focused on their relationship. Often, when one person gains increasing understanding about their relationships needs, communication skills, and makes positive changes, it inevitably starts to make improvements in the couple relationship.
Are sessions covered by benefits/insurance? Most extended healthcare plans will cover sessions with a Registered Psychologist (like myself). However, I encourage clients to check with their provider before first appointment, to gather information regarding their specific coverage. Click [here] to learn more.
Do sessions ever last longer than 50 minutes? Yes, both 90 or 120 minute sessions are available upon request.
